Learn forward bending and overcome summer heat!

Forward bending postures help to cool down our brain and are effective to overcome summer heat!

Forward bending postures are called Paschima Pratana Sthiti. Paschima means west and back (back of body), Pratana means stretch and Sthiti means stable posture.

Geeta Iyengar described forward bending postures in his book Yoga IN Action Preliminary Course as the movements to bend forward making an extension and stretching the muscles along the spine. Forward bending postures make the spine resilient and encourage blood circulation from the pelvic floor. We can promote the functions of digestive systems and organs, balance the nerve system and release the stress or tiredness through forward bending postures.

However, if we practice these postures without recognizing the curve of spine (dent of spine), you will not feel the effect and it may even hurt your back. Also without proper stretch of spine, it increases the strain on the neck or shoulders. Once you learn the basics of forward bending postures, you can feel a sense of openness and comfortable stretch.

In this workshop, we will learn the movements of back muscles and spine through basic postures and also look at common issues such as tensions on hamstrings and hip joints, curved lumber and arched back. At the end of the class, we will practice advanced postures.

Target asana: Parsvottanasana, Uttanasana, Paschimottanasana, Urdhva Prasarita Eka Padasana, Krounchasana

We will use props during the practice, so please feel free to join even if you feel stiff or not advanced in forward bending poses.
