New to Yoga or New to NYS
1) I’m a beginner. Which class should I take?
In general, beginners in yoga start with Hatha Yoga where you’ll learn the foundations and alignment of physical postures (asanas), various breathing techniques, and meditation. Hatha Yoga for Beginners is a gentle introduction to yoga, examining the basics of each pose, step by step. Beginners usually take a few Hatha Yoga classes for a few weeks or months before joining Flow classes (Slow Flow, Hatha Flow, Vinyasa Flow), depending on your progress. Flow classes are more energetic with more speedy movements, hence more chance of getting sweaty.
We also offer one-on-one private yoga classes which could be useful for beginners. Please reach out to us at info@namiyogastudio.com for more information on private classes.
2) What can I expect in my first class?
For your first class, come 10-15 minutes early so you can settle into the space and ask any questions of your teacher. It is recommended that you practice yoga with an empty stomach, so please have your food at least 2 hours before class start time.
3) What should I wear and bring?
Wear what you’d be comfortable stretching and sweating in. Bring a water bottle and a towel too.
